A Study on Systemic Barriers in Jumla Apple Value Chain

This publication, prepared by Hriti Foundation, presents a comprehensive study on the challenges within the Jumla apple value chain. Despite Jumla’s reputation as an ‘organic district’ and its dominance in Nepal’s apple market, systemic barriers such as poor post-harvest handling, limited grading and sorting practices, inadequate storage facilities, and inefficient market access hinder the sector’s growth. The report identifies these key challenges and provides strategic recommendations to enhance apple production, reduce post-harvest losses, improve packaging and transportation, and establish value-added processing industries.
