In a proactive move towards evidence-based law-making, the Hriti Foundation orchestrated a pivotal event on February 1, 2024, bringing together various stakeholders to discuss and review the Electricity Bill. Held in Birendranagar, Surkhet, the program was conducted in collaboration with the Finance and Natural Resource Committee of the Karnali Province Assembly and support from the Parliament Support Project (UNDP).
The event witnessed active participation, including President Durg Bahadur Rawat of the Finance and Natural Resources Committee, who played a pivotal role in steering discussions. Members of the provincial Assembly, Hikmat Bahadur Bista, Balimaya Budha, Ghanshyam Bhandari, and Bir Bahadur Shahi, brought their legislative insights to the forefront. Representatives from the private sector and academia also made significant contributions, infusing the discussions with practical experiences and academic expertise in electrical engineering.
Stakeholders actively engaged in discussions regarding the electricity bill, which is currently under discussion in the Karnali Provincial Assembly’s Finance and Natural Resources Committee. President Durg Bahadur Rawat and members of the provincial Assembly lent their perspectives to the discourse. Electrical expert Pramod Rijal shared valuable insights into the Electricity Bill.
During the program, the Hriti Foundation formally handed over expert suggestions on the Electricity Bill to President Durg Bahadur Rawat. In response, President Rawat assured the implementation of the valuable suggestions put forth during the event. President Rawat pledged to incorporate the suggestions made during the program, ensuring that evidence-based decision-making becomes a cornerstone in formulating the Electricity Bill.
