A discussion on the ‘Dalit Empowerment Bill’, currently being discussed in the Social Development Committee of the Karnali Provincial Assembly, was held in Birendranagar on November 28. Organized by Hriti Foundation in collaboration with UNDP PSP, the event brought together around 35 participants, including youth, Members of Parliament (MPs), civil society representatives, and Dalit rights activists.
The focus of the discussion was to gather expert suggestions to strengthen the bill and ensure its effective implementation. Basant BK, an expert on the topic, presented a review to enhance the bill.
Karnali Provincial Assembly Member Bindaman Bista emphasized the need to rewrite and pass the bill, stating, “I have seen the need for this bill and will make all necessary efforts to make it a law.” Similarly, Kalyani Khadka, another member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly, expressed her long-standing support for the bill and pledged to contribute to its amendment and passage.
Stakeholders also expressed hope for the bill’s successful implementation, viewing it as a significant step toward uplifting their community.
