Interaction program between MPs and Citizens on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Karnali Provincial Assembly

Hriti Foundation facilitated the interaction program between MPs and citizens on the occasion of the second anniversary of provincial assembly. Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi, Deputy Speaker Pushpa Gharti (Bista), Leader of the Main Opposition Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, Chief Whip of the ruling party Sita Kumari Nepali and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Dinbandhu Shrestha addressed the program.

Chairman of the Legislative Committee Dan Singh Pariyar, Member of the Social Development Committee Padma Khadka and Secretary of the Karnali Provincial Assembly Jeevraj Budhathoki were also present as panelists. They participated in the program in the provincial assembly in physical presence and the rest through virtual means.

Stakeholders representing about 40 different bodies participated in the program in physical presence and about 50 citizens from all 10 districts of Karnali were connected through virtual medium.

Secretary of the Karnali Provincial Assembly Jeevraj Budhathoki had mentioned about the three-year performance of the provincial assembly. After that, the program was interacted with the citizens and MPs pf the provincial assembly. Program was announced by Rajendra Poudyal, Secretary of the Social Development Committee of the Provincial Assembly and the interaction program was moderated by Dinesh Gautam of Hriti Foundation.

Speaking with the citizens, Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi said that the presence of the provincial assembly members in the provincial assembly was important and added that the legislature was more important than the executive. He said that most of the office bearers in the province assembly have new experience and have the responsibility to make many laws.

Leader of the Main Opposition Party , Jeevan Bahadur Shahi said that the provincial assembly and the main opposition party were monitoring the situation with responsibility. Deputy Speaker Pushpa Gharti Bista said that women parliamentarians in the provincial assembly are raising the voice of women and marginalized communities in front of the provincial government. She said that citizen engagement in policy making should be exercised for the successful implementation of the policies.
