Hriti Foundation Organizes Series of Consultations on Systemic Barriers in the Apple Value Chain of Karnali

Hriti Foundation is working on studying and discussing the systemic barriers in the Apple Value Chain of Karnali Province. Recognizing the significance of apple production in the province’s economy, Hriti has conducted dialogues with key stakeholders, including policymakers, bureaucrats, and private sector actors.

Policy Discussion with Lawmakers—March 18, 2025

The Hriti Foundation organized a policy discussion titled “A Policy Discussion with Lawmakers” with members of the Karnali Provincial Assembly. The meeting provided a platform to present the key findings on challenges within the Apple value chain and initiated discussions on possible policy-level interventions. Provincial lawmakers emphasized the need for apple promotion to be integrated into Karnali’s broader economic development strategies.


Consultation with Government Officials—March 19, 2025
In a second round of discussions, the Hriti Foundation held a meeting titled “Systemic Barriers in the Jumla Apple: Findings and Way Forward” with government officials of Karnali Province. The dialogue focused on the institutional and systemic barriers affecting apple production and marketing. Officials acknowledged the importance of facilitating private sector investment and the need for coherent policies to strengthen the Apple value chain.


Stakeholder Consultation: March 25, 2025
The third meeting, titled “Systemic Barriers in the Jumla Apple: Findings and Way Forward with Stakeholders,” brought together private sector representatives, apple farmers, media personnel, and other stakeholders from across Karnali Province. Participants stressed that apples are a vital component of Karnali’s economy and highlighted the urgent need for provincial policy reforms and investment-friendly environments.


Across all three events, a common consensus emerged: the apple sector holds great potential for driving economic growth in Karnali. Stakeholders urged the provincial government to prioritize apple-related policies and create a conducive environment for private-sector investment.
